With strong beats, an energetic electric guitar, and breathy vocals, Memoryhouse brings to mind "The Cranberries", that popular Irish band from the 90's that, at times, may have been a little over-played. Lead singer Denise Nouvian describes Memoryhouse's style as "Pop, definitely pop.", but her answer was tinged with a sigh, as if the explanation deserved to be quite longer. There is something different about it: it's ethereal and simultaneously dynamic.

Vocally, Denise has a style similar to that of Zooey Deschanel, and her calming vocals are a nice contrast to the vigorous drum beats. Their music is catchy and attention-catching, however it isn't something to pop any moves to other than bobbing your head and tapping your feet. As you listen, it feels like the perfect, epic soundtrack to a regular kind of life.

There was a lot of energy to this music in both slow and more upbeat songs, and it's at once captivating and inspiring, physically drawing the crowd in for the drama as they play. And oh, do they play it well. The three-person band seems well-practiced and truly picky about how their sound comes out. As with most live music, however, it was difficult to hear the lyrics 100% of the time.

The venue, Bunk Bar, could be a gem with a little more polish. It took three drink orders before receiving an answer besides "No" or "It's out." One complaint could be that the advertised time for the show was8pm, and the band didn't play until 11pm. Overall, it was a great show. The band really knows how to appeal to a crowd.
