I've been super excited to write this entry for a while now, why? Because it's about a film, If you know me then you'll know that I have an obsession with films and everything about them and I have a serious habit of over analyzing films as well. I originally wanted to do a review on the new 3D Titanic that has just come out this week, but I haven't had the time to go out and see it! So I think I'll have to save that one for next time. But seeing as it's the Easter weekend I've been able to have some quiet time with my much loved T.V. I used this time to watch a really cute movie called "500 Days of Summer" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.
At first I expected it to be an Indie sort-of movie that's romantic and a little weird, but I was quite surprised and felt all happy inside when i saw it. Some things are a little different compared to other "love story" movies out there but they're clever additions to the movie that make it unique to others.
Okay, so let me give you a run down of what goes on here (no spoilers, I promise!). So there is this guy named Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who meets Summer (Zooey Deschanel) and falls in love with her instantly. Except she doesn't believe in love, she thinks it is all a fantasy and doesn't return her feelings and yet he still chases after her. It's as simple as that, I love how the plot isn't so complicated and yet it is such a great film and what makes it great is that it is so real. There's one particular scene where Tom is going to meet Summer at a party of hers and they show what he is expecting to happen and what actually happens at the same time, (I'm not going to telling you what happens) but it's what we people do in reality. We have expectations but they don't always turn out the way we want… and this story tells it perfectly.
I like to believe that this story is based on change and how we grow in life from meeting one person who can change everything. It's not like any other "they lived happily ever after" type of movie, it's what everyone goes through everyday, all around the world… that is ofcourse if you really want to analyze this movie to pieces. I went a bit crazy after watching this movie and explaining it to my partner, rambling on and on about how the character Tom changes in the movie; the weather, the colours used, even the music! I told you I loved over analyzing films… I could keep going for hours but I would really love to hear how you guys over analyze this movie! What do you think the message behind this film is?
I loved the movie because it's meaningful; simple, sweet, lovely, and well done and I wanted to share it with all of our special readers. So what are you waiting for? Go to the nearest video shop, borrow it, download it from iTunes or Zune, pop it in the dvd player or hit play on your Apple TV, Xbox or favourite media player, get the bowl of pop corn out and enjoy!
Expectations: Don't expect a romantic chick flick because it's not like that, expect that it is suitable for the family (it's PG 13+), expect an awesome soundtrack, expect good acting, expect a sweet movie.
Reality: What did you think? I'm interested in what you thought about the movie and I really want to know so comment below! Until next time guys…
