Pau Gasol has no idea what just happened to him.
There's a reason the Los Angeles Clippers have turned the City of Angels into Lob City. Blake Griffin, for all his faults as a basketball player, is a freakish athlete with incredible jumping and dunking skills. While he's not much of a shooter or free-throw hitter, he can slam a dunk home with the best in the NBA. That's why he's in the league, and that's why we're talking about him. Last night in the Staples Center, the Clippers played the Los Angeles Lakers in the Battle of Los Angeles. While the Lakers beat the Clippers 113-108, Blake Griffin absolutely destroyed Pau Gasol with a massive dunk and that's all anyone is talking about. "You don't really see what happened," said an angry Gasol. "It was quick, a hit-and-run kind of thing, right? The ball went in, I was on my a–, I woke up, I stood up and told the referee I had a f—ing forearm on my face, on my throat, and that's something that needs to be looked at. But it happened too quick. I didn't realize."
Gasol was a crucial piece of the Lakers' 2010 title team, but he's not known for his defensive prowess. Still, when Blake Griffin is looming over you ready to rearrange your worldview with a basketball to the brain, maybe you should just duck and cover, rather than rising to the challenge and trying to D him up. Give him credit for trying, but give Blake more credit for shrugging him aside with a forearm and ruining the rim with a slam.
