Justine Dunton-Rose, FAMOUS Magazine's Beauty Editor

I recently chatted to FAMOUS Magazine's lovely beauty editor Justine Dunton-Rose about her latest beauty obsessions and tips.

Nothing beats getting exclusive insider professional beauty advice from those who live and breathe it everyday. Justine is the envy of all girly girls, she spends her day opening pretty packages and trialling all the latest and greatest beauty products. When she's not at FAMOUS weekly HQ she's off at glamourous product launch parties. She's got the goss on all the latest beauty trends and tips so to get her advice is a great help, especially for those like me who have no clue about make-up!

How did you land your job as FAMOUS Magazine's Beauty Editor? Has beauty writing always been your passion?

It's something that I've always loved – but I didn't realise how much, until I started working in the industry. I worked my way up, from interning at InStyle magazine to landing a role as Beauty Assistant there (which is when I realised this was where I wanted to be). After two and a half years there, and doing other interning jobs at WHO, FAMOUS and Rolling Stone I completed my Communications Degree at UTS and entered to full-time work force in the land of Beauty PR. After a year there, and after gaining a real understanding of what goes on the 'other side', I sorely missed editorial and was lucky enough to get the role of Beauty Editor at FAMOUS – my old interning stomping ground!

Best thing about your job?

The people! The other Editors have become some of my closest friends along with many PRs. We're also lucky enough to meet some of the finest minds in the business – from dermatologists, to scientists, from makeup artists to brand ambassadors.

Latest beauty trend you find yourself obsessed with?

I love being able to play with many trends at the same time – I think the best thing is being able to see a trend, then turn around and grab whatever it is from the cupboard to instantly try it out – like a kid in a cake shop, this is my achilles heel and I love it more every day. This sometimes means I can flip between a bright lip and a barely there gloss, and from poker straight hair to a messy ballerina bun all in the same day!

At the moment I'm trying a fringe, I've never had bangs before – ever! So I braved the chop for a feature I was writing, and have to say I'm really enjoying it (sadly I will never look like Zooey Deschanel, but I tried)!

Product you can't leave the house without?

I can't leave the house without a great hydrating base, I'm currently obsessed with mixing my own – a pore minimising primer, illuminiser and then two shades of foundation together – it's so much fun, and you can customise your shade every day… which works hand in hand with my other obsession, fake tan!

Number one beauty rule?

Less is more! It's all about looking the best you can, in the most realistic way. OTT beauty can be the biggest mistake girls make.

Any useful beauty tips or tricks you can share?

Concealer AFTER foundation – it's something I did wrong for years! Use concealer after foundation to cover imperfections you can still see.

What do you think of laser hair removal?

I'm actually trialling this myself. I've been really pleased with the results and have heard some great things from people I know. However, I don't think it will ever completely replace waxing – because of the cost, and also because not everyone is a candidate for Laser Hair Removal (an ideal candidate has dark hair, light skin).

That's all for now, but stay tuned and I'll keep you posted via Twitter @HerEmpireOnline for more professional advice to come!
