Big K.R.I.T
In May 2010, Big K.R.I.T released his mixtape, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, digitally, garnering critical acclaim.[1] That same month, former president of G-Unit Records and current Senior VP of A&R at Def Jam Records, Sha Money XL, signed him to the label as one of his first priorities in his new position. K.R.I.T previously released several mixtapes, including Hood Fame, with DJ Wally Sparks and The Last King, with DJ Breakem Off. He's also made guest appearances on Pilot Talk, the third studio album and major label debut from rapper, Curren$y as well as Kush and Orange Juice, the critically acclaimed mixtape by rapper Wiz Khalifa, that was the No. 1 search and trending topics on Google and Twitter following its release. In October 2010, K.R.I.T co-headlined The Smoker's Club Tour 2010 with Curren$y and Smoke DZA. He performed in Little Rock, AR with Curren$y and Mac Miller. In November 2010, K.R.I.T opened for Wiz Khalifa in Baltimore, Maryland Sayerville, New Jersey Winston-Salem, North Carolina and in Ashland, Virginia during the Waken Baken tour. He is one of the featured XXL Top Eleven Freshmen of 2011, along side of Meek Mill, Cyhi Da Prynce, Lil Twist, Yelawolf, Fred The Godson, Mac Miller, YG, Lil B, Kendrick Lamar & Diggy Simmons. In March 2011, Big K.R.I.T released his highly anticipated and entirely self-produced mixtape, Return of 4Eva, featuring guests David Banner, Joi, Big Sant, Chamillionaire, Raheem Devaughn, Ludacris, and Bun B. The mixtape has been acclaimed by rap critics, with William Ketchum of HipHopDX calling it "emotive, conceptual music" and saying that Big K.R.I.T. had given fans a "free album" – the magazine's highest praise for a mixtape.[5] Meanwhile, Matthew Cole of Slant Magazine highlighted Return of 4Eva in his mixtape review column as "the best mixtape of the month," going on in a separate review to call it "the rap album to beat in 2011 ".[6][7] Both critics praised Big K.R.I.T.'s production skills as much as his lyrics and flow, and both named K.R.I.T. as a likely successor to Southern rap legends UGK, Scarface, and Outkast. On April 20, 2011, Tom Breihan reviewed the mixtape for Pitchfork, giving an 8.2 out of 10 and awarding it the site's coveted "Best New Music" tag.[8] On July 1, 2011 Big K.R.I.T. announced his debut studio album titled "Live from the Underground". It was set to be released on September 27, 2011.[9] From October 12, 2011 until November 24, 2011 K.R.I.T. co-headlined The Smoker's Club Tour 2011 with Curren$y and Method Man. – wikipedia.org

Miike Snow
Miike Snow is an indie electro-pop trio comprised of writer/producers Chris Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, and Andrew Wyatt that debuted in 2009 on the label Downtown Records. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Karlsson and Winnberg are best known as the production duo Bloodshy & Avant. As such, they worked with a range of international pop stars during the early 2000s, including Britney Spears, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and Ms. Dynamite. Most notably, their production of Spears' 2004 chart-topping smash hit "Toxic" won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2005. Based in New York City, Wyatt is a writer/producer who formerly collaborated in the groups Black Beetle and the A.M. with Joan Wasser and Michael Tighe, respectively. He's also an in-house producer for Downtown Records (Spank Rock, Amanda Blank) and a member of the band Fires of Rome, which made its full-length album debut with You Kingdom You (2009). Founded in 2007, Miike Snow brought the talents of the three together in one group, and the commercial debut single "Animal" was released on Downtown Records in 2009. A batch of promotional MP3s was also released and proved popular in the music blogosphere. Among this initial batch of MP3s were the songs "Animal" and "Burial," along with remixes of these songs by DJ Mehdi, Crookers, Benny Blanco, and Treasure Fingers; plus, there was a Miike Snow remix of the Vampire Weekend song "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance." The trio's full-length album debut was released later in the year on Downtown Records and the group departed for a North American tour. In 2012, they founded the indie label Ingrid with Lykke Li, Dungen, and Peter Bjorn and John, before releasing their second full-length Happy to You.

Electric Guest
There is a red carpet lineup of sounds on the Electric Guest list. The Los Angeles duo pop the spotlight on their seductive vocals and VIP friends (harmonica, guitar and keys) in a pool of magnetic beats with American Daydream. Off their latest album, Mondo, onDowntown Records (dropping late March), produced by Danger Mouse (Broken Bells, Gnarls Barkley), the pair Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton atypically map melodies under the electric-soul-hipster-rock parasol with a sonic boom. Breezy and sultry, the music breathes a refreshing lesson on living laxed and large on coastal California.
Last week the band also released their single This Head I Hold, along with a confident and daring video by director/producer of prime Jorma Taccone (infamous viral Dick in a Box) for their American Dream single. As the handsomely talented West Coast players bathe in sun-fused lyrics and salty acoustics, they are A-list bound with an SXSW performance and a crowded list of upcoming shows. Catch them at L.A. must-knowThe Echo this month before they roam the Midwest in March. A front row at any of their gigs would prove multi-sensory and audio-visually stimulating. – Trendland.com

Bloodshot Bill
Bloodshot Bill started playing in his hometown of Montreal, around 1998, with just a guitar and a stomp board. Since then, he has had over 30 releases throughout Europe, the USA and Canada – all places he has toured over the years. He was once banned from entering the USA (for 5 years, 2006-2011) and made his first "comeback" show in America at the Norton Records 25th Anniversary Weekend, performing alongside such legendary acts as Andre Williams, The Sonics & The South Bay Surfers. His hair is slicked with his own brand of hair grease ("Nice 'n' Greasy"), and plays his guitar through a custom made Richtone Amp. He's been in lotsa bands you've never heard of (Hubcaps, Guilloteens, Bootlegs). Released an album and a single with Mark Sultan as The Ding- Dongs. Has been in several films & documentaries. Collaborates with King Khan as Tandoori Knights – they've released 1 album & 3 singles together. He's been hired by a bowling alley to be the spokesmen for their new hamburger, The Degeue ("disgusting burger" translated). Usually travels alone as a one man band.

Rubblebucket
This spring the rapturous, octet, Rubblebucket are releasing their first live CD/DVD in conjunction with a U.S. tour. Live in Chicago features hits from the band's 2011 Omega La La, which was produced by Eric Broucek (LCD Soundsystem, !!!, Holy Ghost) at DFA Studios, and mastered by Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, etc.). However, veteran fans will not be disappointed as Live in Chicago also includes old favorites such as: "Bikes", "November", and "Philips Van" from Rubblebucket's self titled debut.
Of Rubblebucket's recent sold-out Bowery Ballroom gig in NYC, CMJ writes, "Unprovoked chants of "RUB-BLE-BUC-KET!" and "Let's get weird!" rebounded about the empty Ballroom stage. Things would get weird. They'd also get loud, sweaty, ebullient and adorable, in that order."
Paste
"Joyous jungles of worldly pop-funk, instrumentally rich but catchy enough to ass-kick Katy Perry off the pop charts (in a just world)—mega-melodic without sacrificing an ounce of atmosphere or creativity."
CBS The Street Date
"Very few bands of the hipster generation care to challenge the confines of a song structure as vigorously and successfully as Rubblebucket does throughout Omega La La."

M. Ward
Portland, Oregon-based singer/songwriter M. Ward (born Matthew Stephen Ward) grew up listening to gospel and country, two genres that figure prominently in his breezy, West Coast take on Americana. After a six-year stint with the folk-rock trio Rodriguez, Ward began sketching out songs deeply rooted in the classic traditions of American country-folk. Ward's first solo effort came in the form of Duet for Guitars #2, which was written and recorded while he was living between Chicago and various locales on the West Coast. Eventually, the album was placed in the hands of the ever enigmatic Giant Sand mastermind Howe Gelb, who released it on his own Ow Om Recordings in the fall of 2000. The record enjoyed favorable reviews and a considerable amount of attention in underground rock circles, and Ward supported it with a handful tours throughout the United States and Europe.
Released in 2001, End of Amnesia helped to further develop Ward's penchant for dusty, timeless narratives and bluesy, back-porch ballads, but it wasn't until 2003′s Transfiguration of Vincent that Ward would begin to penetrate the mainstream. His first release for indie darling Merge Records, Vincent cashed in on the Great Depression obsession of the post-O Brother, Where Art Thou? gold rush, paving the way for 2005′s Transistor Radio and 2006′s Post-War, both of which firmly established Ward as a major player in the burgeoning indie folk/adult alternative rock scene. In 2008, after collaborating on a song for the film The Go-Getter with actress Zooey Deschanel, the unlikely duo released a well-received album of covers and Deschanel originals called Volume One under the moniker She & Him. Ward returned to the studio later that year to begin work on his next full-length offering; 2009′s Hold Time, which featured guest vocals from Deschanel, Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), and Lucinda Williams, arrived in early 2009. 2010 and 2011 saw the release of two more She & Him outings (Volume 2 and A Very She & Him Christmas), followed in 2012 by his seventh proper solo outing, A Wasteland Companion, which was recorded in eight different studios and featured contributions from 18n different musicians including Howe Gelb, Bright Eyes' Mike Mogis, Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley, Devotchka's Tom Hagerman, and Deschanel. ~ Nate Cavalieri & James Christopher Monger, Rovi

Horse Feathers
Justin Ringle moved to Portland, Oregon in 2004, and began to play open mics regularly under the moniker Horse Feathers. In 2005 Peter Broderick heard two songs that Justin had recorded in a friend's basement, and proceeded to track Justin down via the internet. Shortly after that, the two started playing music together. For the most part, Justin writes the songs initially, and then Peter helps to arrange them with varying instrumentation. The resulting sound is music.

Ashley Sofia
22-year-old Ashley Sofia is making waves. In the past year alone she has shot a music video, interviewed with a magazine, has been sponsored, playing shows, and played on major radio stations. The young artist barely out of college has inspired audiences wherever she plays. Born and raised in the heart of the Adirondacks, Ashley grew up playing music and writing. When she was just 11 years old, she picked up her father's guitar and learned everything he was willing to show her. Today, and 60 songs later, she plays acoustic, electric, the 12- string guitar, piano, and harmonica. When Ashley went away to college, she wrote her first album, "Find Some Peace." Her fresh folk pop sound has awoken listeners from her hometown to across the ocean. Known for her ability to sing you into a memory, she makes no apology for her commitment to the lyrics. She says her songs are "poems set to music."

Eilen Jewell
Although her country-flavored and blues-infused version of contemporary folk (which also can include healthy doses of rockabilly and surf) has drawn comparisons to musicians like Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Jolie Holland, and the Be Good Tanyas, Eilen Jewell's strongest influences have been the classic sides recorded by Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday (the latter artist is no doubt the source for Jewell's characteristic and surprisingly effective stretched, slowed, and even slurred vocal mannerisms). Born and raised in Boise, Idaho, Jewell began piano lessons at the age of seven and picked up the guitar when she was 14. She also fell under the powerful spell of Smith and Holiday (along with discovering other artists like Bob Dylan and Howlin' Wolf). While attending St. John's College in Santa Fe, she began playing the local farmers' markets and bars. She moved to Los Angeles, then relocated all the way across the country in early 2003 to western Massachusetts, and later in the year she moved to Boston, where she threw herself into the vigorous local music scene. She recorded a live demo album in 2005 called Nowhere in No Time and put out the self-released studio project Boundary Country a year later in 2006. The critical response to Boundary Country led to her signing with Signature Sounds, and Jewell's first national release, Letters from Sinners & Strangers, appeared from the imprint in 2007. A second album from Signature Sounds, Queen of the Minor Key, was released in 2011.

3.30.12 – 5.4.12 (Rachel Hellmann, Robert Maloney and Hannah Richman)
-" As our eyes scan the natural landscape, we tend to be drawn towards the repetition of linear shape – the vertical forest of trees, the rhythmic recurrence of plant shapes. This inclination towards the repetitive is harnessed and recreated in our urban landscape: trees are replaced by the continuity of buildings, plants are exchanged for the pattern of brick."
-Robert Maloney is one of the Artists being featured in the show "Sight Lines". His work is intriguing and thought provoking, while still balancing on the lines of being aesthetically pleasing because much like the structures that inspire his work there are clean lines and beautiful textures. His work mirrors the minimalist cityscape while working two and three dimensional. The mixed media pieces seem to hark to artists like Robert Rauschenberg. Take the time to go see this gallery and the show before its too late.

This gallery has three locations and is one of the most unique concepts I have come across for a art gallery. It honors all things bad art. The gallery takes submissions of people that range in age from the very young to the very old. The art being displayed is in homage to the bad art of the world, (MOBA, Museum Of Bad Art). Now that is a flash in the pan, and the thing is some of this "Bad Art" could in its own right be displayed elsewhere as great art, sometime art looses its translation when the artists has trouble understanding what greatness they have achieved. So head to one of the three locations and honor those self loathing artists that submit to this and give them some love.

This is a contemporary art gallery that is filled with primarily photography, painting, and American idian art. The works on exhibit right now are by the artist Nocona Burgess. . Born into a very noble American Indian lineage, Nocona is the great-great grandson of Comanche Chief Quanah Parker. Burgess' artistic voice has been heard far outside the boundaries of the Southwest he calls home, appearing with his works in Belgium, Holland, and Germany as part of the touring exhibit They Called Us Indians. His work is paint and seems to fallow a Warhol like ideal, much like Warhol he uses stencils and has done several portraits. These portraits are reminiscent of his work and also have a popular pop art appeal that most viewers can connect with. This artist deserves our admiration so if your in the area go check out the work, or if you have the cash, buy some art!

Blind Spots: new work by Meggan Gould and Billie Mandle
Wednesday 04.11.2012 through Friday 05.25.2012
Meggan Gould's photographs of film camera viewfinders and Billie Mandle's photographs of parking garages share a spare, abstract quality. Working with typically mundane subjects, both artists find ways to reframe our view, highlighting surface, texture and form where none is expected. Gould looks at the camera itself, separating the viewfinder's quirks from the world beyond and examining how these glass and plastic forms inform and shape our photographic visions. Mandle digitally removes parking lines and signs, to wonder if it is possible to turn places with a singular purpose into images that invite speculation.

Such is Your Luck
THROUGH SUNDAY, JUNE 17, 2012
Artist Statement:
"Such is your luck, such you are called to see, and let it come rough or smooth, you must surely bear it." —Nat Turner, The Confessions of Nat Turner
"An insistence on legibility produces its own shadow, the illegible. Between the bare-faced lie and the naked truth lies the zone of illegibility…." —Raqs Media Collective
It has been suggested that faith and luck are fundamentally incommensurate: for a believer, it is not luck, but rather grace, that guides. But what about politics and luck? How do we orient ourselves in a political context that lacks a viable, enduring concept of progress? A context in which change is accidental and arbitrary and meaning seems incidental, redundant, or even absent? My recent work explores the tension between improvisation, repetition, and fugitivity. It is concerned with the ways that we make sense of the matter of our lives—the values (this matters) and the raw materials; the episodes, the contingencies, and the accidents.
Most of the works in this exhibition employ acetate as medium, glazing, or support for inkjet photographic prints. Several pieces are part of a larger body of work with a specific source of inspiration: A few years ago, a newspaper reported that Chicago public school student Derrion Albert had copied a poem called "Affirmations for Living" and posted it where he could view it while doing homework. The text is written in the present conditional tense: each phrase begins, "If I could…", and the final line triumphantly concludes, "If I could…and I can…so I WILL!" Albert was killed while walking home from school in September 2009.
