First the Youtube videos popped up from members of the military asking Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson to their formal balls. (Justin and Mila accepted, Scarlett declined but sent cases of Tattinger instead, which was probably the bigger blessing.)
Then a cancer-stricken teen asked Taylor Swift to his prom (she declined but extended an invitation to an awards show, which he was unable to attend due to treatment.)
And now it's a trend piece. USAToday has a story about a guy asking Beiber to go to his prom with him as friends, a teenager tweeting hundreds of porn stars trying for a prom date, a girl tweeting an NBA star for a date, these guys seem to be asking an American Idol runner up to go with both of them?

Having a famous person at your prom will not make your life better. A famous person should not have to attend your prom any more than any other stranger. A minute of fame is not worth the unbearable awkwardness of taking Snooki to your school dance. Additionally, the school dance is ostensibly for the entire student body and you just made it all about you, which is such a jerk move.
Sure, if you happen to be Priscilla Beaulieu and you are dating Elvis Presley, then by all means, invite him to homecoming. But if you can't find a date for Tolo, don't drag Zooey Deschanel into it. Ask your cousin from out of town like everyone else has done for hundreds of years.
