SO ANYWAY, I was talking to Rufus Wainwright the other night, about his new album, and we talked about the song, Out Of The Game, which sounds a bit like Michael Buble at times, but has some really cool gospel overtones.
By the way, if you watch the music video, it's really Helena Bonham Carter who sings the song. And it's is quite a funny video, set in part in a library and you know how fun those music videos can be. I think it suits the song perfectly.
Yes, Mrs Tim Burton is the latest movie star from Hollywood to make a stab at being a pop star, following the likes of Keanu Reeves, Jared Leto, ScarJo, Zooey Deschanel and our fave, the Grammy Award-winning Steve Martin. (I mean, discounting the TV and movie stars from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Australia and Korea…)
But if you think Helena's singing isn't up to snuff, wait till you get a load of this guy. Here's someone you might recognise: Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, aka Sherlock Holmes, aka Robert Downey Jr. But years before he became famous for those iconic roles, RDJ was performing that marvellous song, I Want Love.
And who says models are just talentless faces? These supermodels beg to differ, thank you very much. If they weren't so busy modelling, they could have formed a super band. Here, they sing their big hit, Freedom 90.
And here they are again, singing this cool tune, Girl Panic.
And Winona Ryder could have seriously considered singing the blues.
Oh, sorry: "I don't play no blues, I play rock 'n' roll." And yes, that's John C Reilly on drums and Giovanni Ribisi on the Telecaster. Class.
Another one who could really have had alternative career as a singer had he actively pursued it, is this guy called Mr Chevy Chase, who had this big hit called You Can Call Me Al. Great, great song. Too bad he went with the National Lampoon and Fletch sequels.
Of course, he had help: The guy backing him on various instruments? Yes, Mr Paul Simon, who sang about darkness, that old friend, and other such subjects…
But perhaps, our favourite is this one. A song called Not About Love, by Zach "The Hangover" Gian-watchamacallit-is. And he even managed to get Fiona Apple to make a cameo in the music video.
Good stuff. Second career? Why not? Heck, they gave a Grammy to Milli Vanilli, didn't they?
