Emily Erin Deschanel (Los Angeles, October 11, 1976) is an American actress.
Her parents are Caleb Deschanel, a cameraman and Academy Award nominee, and Mary Jo Weir, an actress. She has a sister, Zooey Deschanel. Her paternal grandfather was of French descent. She also has Irish ancestry. Deschanel is a graduate of Boston University.
She made her debut on the silver screen in 1994 in the movie It Could Happen to You. Since then, the recognition of her as an actress grew, and in October 2004 by Interview Magazine, she was elected one of six actresses to look out for.
Besides playing movies Deschanel has also been a guest several times in television shows such as Crossing Jordan and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2005, Deschanel plays the leading role in the FOX series Bones, as a forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Her character is based on that of the real anthropologist Kathy Reichs.
She is a vegan. On September 25, 2010 she married actor and writer David Hornsby. The couple had a son in 2011.
