The Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 Collection was as beautiful and refreshing as the resort vacations that inspired the season. Of course we expect the beautiful part from Oscar, but this collection really hit its stride with the edgier aesthetic the designer has been beginning to incorporate for seasons. Between the highly engaging and entertaining @oscarprgirl twitter and neon streaks in the models' hair on the runway, the sometimes mumsy (if fabulous) fashion house is getting downright youthful.
One way of putting it is that there were plenty of dresses that would look perfect on Zooey Deschanel. Not just red carpet Zooey Deschanel, but her stylistic twin New Girl character Jess Zooey Deschanel, too. The traditional femininity has embraced a bit of the twee girlishness that has saturated our culture without losing its sophistication. High fashion craftsmanship and exquisite detail will do that to even a gingham pouf-skirt prom dress.
Don't worry, there was also still a plethora of Palm Beach ready resort and drop dead gorgeous evening wear. Perhaps that's another refreshing thing – a collection that caters to all ages. Daughters and mothers – heck, grandmothers – could all find something chic and of-the-moment here.
