Almost Famous... story of my life.

I really like this movie. Almost Famous is a fun film to watch, especially with friends... in a circle... with a weeeeeeee bit of pot. (Of course, I only say this because of how hilarious the opening "Simon and Garfunkel" sequence is). "They are on pot!" hahahaha.....

This is the one:

There have been so many times... countless times... when my friends and I have found ourselves singing tiny dancer and pretending (if only, just for a brief moment, how wonderful this scene is):

This clip is particularly fun:

Almost Famous was Zooey Deschanel's first *major* film role. She was only in the movie for a few brief moments, but she was stunning nonetheless. A lot of people don't know this, but Almost Famous is actually largely based on truth. The director, Cameron Crowe, wrote the screenplay based off of his experiences as a teen journalist for the Rolling Stones! In the film, the protagonist follows a fictional band called "Stillwater". However, in real life, Cameron Crowe followed the Allman Brothers Band. Because of this, Crowe adds a great deal of Allman Brothers references to Almost Famous. For instance, Allman Brothers plays in the tour bus, Allman Brothers ticket stubs are used as an "insert shot", Stillwater album covers were posed to be near exact replicas of Allman Brothers cover art, etc...

Jack Black was one of the contenders for the role of Lester Bangs, but lost the role to Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Brad Pitt was originally conceived as the lead role!!  However, Pitt declined the job on the basis that he didn't "really get" the role of the lead guitarist, and that he thought someone else would play the role better. (I'm glad he gave the role up). Not that I don't adore Brad Pitt... 'cause I do. It's just that the casting was so immaculate in Almost Famous... I'm glad it turned out the way it did.
