It’s homecoming weekend! (Unlike those of you who are excited for court nominations, I’m really just looking forward to the once-a-year convergence of hipsters and their fashion muses/grandmas.)

Really, though, there’s an infectious spirit of nostalgia and tradition at homecoming. It’s almost enough to make me start wearing ironic animal sweatshirts. In keeping with the festive vibe, I bring you party deliciousness from a bygone era.

Retro Sherbet Punch

For the most addicting punch ever, combine a 2-liter of 7-Up, a gallon of Hawaiian Punch and a liter of pineapple juice. Float in a tub of orange sherbet, and presto! It’s like drinking unicorns and rainbows.

Not only is this stuff a hit at parties — because even though we all act like adults, everyone loves Hawaiian Punch — but it’s distinctly 1950s-retro. In case you forgot, brightly colored, preservative-ridden consumer food products originated in the era of The Honeymooners.

This is perfect for all of those G-rated Halloween parties you’ll be hosting.

*Writer’s note: Apparently this column is like the Lee version of “Bein’ Quirky with Zooey Deschanel.” If you haven’t seen this SNL skit, go watch it. Right now.
