Opinion: Celebrity friend zoning between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and ...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel: they work together, hang out together, sing duets together, and help each other with side projects. Yet, they don’t date.

This is a classic case of “friend zoning.” While this term is generally thrown around among high school boys, it happens in adult lives as well.

While Deschanel has been married and divorced to Ben Gibbard, the lead singer of the popular alternative band “Death Cab for Cutie,” Gordon-Levitt has had no rumored relationships in his career as an actor.

Is this a coincidence? How can total a dreamboat like Gordon-Levitt remain single and have no history of a solid relationship at the age of 31? Could it be that he is waiting for that one perfect girl that just has not seen him as more than a close friend and fellow co-worker?

This celebrity matchmaking between the two actors began with the 2009 film, “500 Days of Summer.” As it seems to be in most cases with Gordon-Levitt, he plays the role of the man who gets his heart broken by the beautiful girl who claims to be the one who does not believe in love at all.

Gordon Levitt’s cute dimples and boyish face make it easy for him to play these kinds of characters. Though I question how much he can actually relate to these hopeless romantic men he plays the roles of.

He wants her. You can see it in the way that he interacts with Deschanel in interviews, recordings, and simply the way that he looks at her when they are in pictures together. While a guy like him could be with any girl he wanted, he waits for that girl who has put him in the “celebrity friend zone.”

I truly hope that someday Deschanel will realize who she is meant to be with. I believe that her divorce with Ben Gibbard should be a sign to her of the man that has been waiting for her.
