Zooey Deschanel’s divorce was finalized on Wednesday, December 12th. According to Us Weekly, the “New Girl” actress and her ex-husband, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, first filed for divorce nearly one year ago.
Court documents show that Deschanel, 32, listed irreconcilable differences as the main reason for her decision to end the marriage. “There is no possibility that counseling … or mediation could save the marriage,” the Los Angeles Superior Court documents read.
The two were very reserved in talking about both their relationship as well as their split. However, Gibbard, 36, did chat about the way he met his ex-wife for New York magazine, a few months prior to the couple breaking up. He was familiar with the actress from movies and thought she was very beautiful, which left him in awe and wonder when she actually started talking to him.
The two got married in September 2009 and had no children together. Their divorce intentions were announced officially in October 2011, following a two-month separation. Shortly after the announcement, the actress told People that everything was fine and that her and Gibbard maintained a friendly relationship.
It seems like the single woman status doesn’t sit well with Deschanel, as she has already been seen out and about with screenwriter Jamie Linden, who wrote for hit movies like “10 Years”, “Dear John” and “We Are Marshall”.
Deschanel scored a Golden Globe nomination last week for her performance in “New Girl”, whose sophomore year has been well received by critics and audiences alike. The TV show is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, for Max Greenfield’s performance as Schmidt.
