Golden Globes Fashion Report | Beyond Beauty Basics

Golden Globes Fashion Report

The red carpet arrivals at the 70th annual Golden Globes on Sunday night was a parade of trends in color, cut, and even styling, with some stars walking their way on to the best dressed list, with others causing many fashion critics shaking their heads.

Trends

  • Red–One of the most eye-catching trends of the evening was stars wearing bright crimson or other shades of the red color family. Zooey Deschanel, Claire Danes, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Alba (coral), and Naomi Watts (wine) all wore the vibrant hue, and all chose simple, but fun accessories to go along with their dramatic dresses. Deschanel kept true to her vintage roots by wearing a pearl necklace with her gown, while Lawrence accentuated her teeny tiny waist with a gold belt.

  • Prints and Patterns–There’s a reason that ball gowns and fancy dresses don’t normally come in print fabrics–it’s because they are very difficult to pull off. Sienna Miller, Halle Berry, Lucy Liu, and Tina Fey all wore dresses with some sort of pattern on them, and all of them got mixed reviews from the fashion crowd.

  • Lace–For many years relegated to weddings and old ladies, lace has been making a major comeback in the fashion world over the past few years, and we definitely saw it on the red carpet Sunday night. Emily Blunt, Michelle Dockery, Jennifer Lopez, Helena Bonham Carter, and Megan Fox all sported the delicate material, in a variety of shades. While some like Fox wore gowns draped in lace, others, like Bonham Carter, chose gowns that used the sheer fabric as an embellishment.
