Best of Award Season Beauty-2013 - Emily L. Foley, Freelance ...

February 25th, 2013Written by Emily L. Foley

So after weeks of glamour, beauty, judgement and late night television watching (you guys know my bedtime is usually old lady early), award season is over, so here is a recap of my favorite looks of the season:

First up, the Emmy’s, and this one is actually a tie for me:

emmys

I love Zooey Deschanel’s (L) raspberry lip, which was created with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Ballet. It contrasted beautifully with her dark hair and ice blue gown. As for Jane Levy (R), the wash of color on the apples of her cheeks makes her look youthful and vibrant, and the combo of the flush with her subtly amped up eyes and pink lip is just gorgeous.

Next up, the Golden Globes:

jh

I’ve interviewed Julianne Hough in person before, and the girl is stunning. She has flawless skin, gorgeous hair, and you’d totally hate her for being so beautiful if she wasn’t so nice. So, it’s no surprise that she dominated the red carpet at the Globes.

Her super modern/fun ‘faux-hawk’ updo was created by hairstylist Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One salon in Hollywood, and it’s the perfect rocker-chic ‘do to accompany her brown smokey eyes and glossy nude lip. Totally flawless in my book!

The BAFTAs:

Bafta Arrivals

The Olsen Twins take gorgeous photos and have killer style, so it was really no surprise when their little sis Elizabeth showed up on the scene about two years ago that she was equally fashion-savvy and photogenic. I absolutely love her darker brown ombré hair color (it was blonde and then a lighter brown before she went this dark), and the barely there makeup shows off her natural beauty perfectly.

SAG Awards:

clairedanes

Claire Danes got a LOT of love this award season. I haven’t seen Homeland, but apparently it is the greatest show ever, and Claire was nominated every time she could be. So it’s no surprise that she really upped the ante beautywise–she looked beautiful at quite a few of the shows, and she had my favorite beauty look at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her makeup was done by Laura Mercier Global Artistry Director Matin Maulawizada, and she totally pulls off the vampy lip (created by blending Laura Mericier Lip Pencil in Coffee Bean and Deep Wine). I also love that the eyes have some interest, but by ‘doing’ both the eyes and lips, Matin doesn’t leave Claire looking like a drag queen. Her copper eyes were created by blending Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour in Rose Gold and Burnished Copper, and then finished off with a wash of Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic. By pairing the ‘done’ makeup with a messy ponytail, Claire keeps things from going over-the-top. Oh, how I love a messy pony!

Grammys:

Slide1

I always say that Leslie Mann is the most underrated beauty in Hollywood, well, along those same lines, Kaley Cuaco is the most underrated trendsetter in Hollywood. Girl has got it. She has an insane eye for fashion (and wardrobe–check this out!), and I could have seriously done an entire awards season recap just with her looks–she was gorg at every single show. But, since I hate to be all superfanish (I seriously haven’t even seen The Big Bang Theory), I just picked my favorite. mark. makeup artist Jamie Greenberg created Kaley’s look at the Grammy’s, which was all about the eyes. She used I-mark Wet/Dry Eye Shadow in Corset, Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Entourage and Get in Line Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner in Painted Black all by mark. to create the heavy, modern cat-eye, which was finished off with Lash Act Mascara in Blackest Black.

Of course, that much eye needs a subtle lip, so Jamie used mark. Lipclick in Bare Hug topped with mark. Glimmer Shine Lip Gloss in Nude Glimmer.

Independent Spirit Awards:

BD0iFSTCUAA9Ekr

Rashida Jonees is one of those totally beautiful, but in a normal way, stars, and I love her style. She stole the beauty show at the ISAs with her orangey-red lip, rosy cheeks and not-too-polished hair. I totally love her hair here, because it’s the perfect hybrid of the trends–it’s somewhere in between the beachy waves that have been all the rage, and the new, polished mermaid waves that are the new ‘it’ hair. Gorg! mark. makeup artist Jamie Greenberg created Rashida’s look, and she layered mark. Touch & Glow Warm Glow and mark. Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Peachy to give her cheeks that barely there wash of color, and her lips are mark. Lipcolor Full Color Lipstick in Cha Cha.

Oscars:

naomi

My favorite look of the night at the Academy Awards was Naomi Watts. I love a messy updo, and hers is so face-flattering. Plus, her slightly-amped up makeup is subtle, but shows something fabulous about her–Naomi is actually aging in Hollywood! Rather than her skin just getting tighter, which is typically what happens through the years with actresses, Naomi is beautiful and not 25. Bravo!

So there you have it folks. The best of the best–at least in my book! Now let’s get some rest and prepare for next award season, which starts in about seven months!

Peace, Love and Award Season Beauty,

Emily
