Our seaside-themed February creative ‘shore’ is cute, isn’t it? That’s all thanks to the bubbly beauty of models such as Sonya, a radiant, raven-haired gal from Aurora, Colorado. Sonya’s charm begins with her gleeful grin, but it’s her playful sense of style, worldly perspective, and creative spirit that gives this confident young woman undeniable appeal. Get to know Sonya through our interview!
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what would you do there?
If I had to choose, I would have to go to where my mother was born and raised — South Korea. I want to see where my mother grew up, go to her favorite places, and understand the differences between our home countries.
What cause, dream, or goal are you most passionate about?
Environmental issues are extremely important to me; I get fired up just thinking about them. I try my best to educate myself on all the issues surrounding climate change, our food system, transportation, the oil industry, green alternatives, and pollution. I purchase as much organic food as I can, and 95% of my beauty products are organic as well. I soon plan on making my own cleaning products for my home. I just hope that people will be more conscious of how they live, what they use or don’t use, what they eat, and who they support, because I think Earth is high on the priority list of things to cherish!
Who are your biggest role models, either in style or in life?
I absolutely adore Zooey Deschanel as both a role model and as a style inspiration. Not only is Zooey an actress, but she is a singer, entrepreneur, producer, and launched a website! She proves that there is always more that you can do for yourself and for others. And then there’s her quirky sense of style that we all admire. She’s sexy in a different way — I think it’s because of her confidence.
My other role model is Audrey Hepburn. I respect her as an actor, woman, and an honest human being. She was so graceful, modest, and had her own style — all things I have learned from her. She did so much for the world while looking beautiful the entire time.
When you’re not on camera, what are your favorite things to wear?
Tights or leggings. I own black tights, polka-dotted ones, colored pairs, Beetlejuice leggings, and my favorite — galaxy-print leggings!
What are your favorite ways to express your creativity?
I go to school for advertising, so I’ve been trying to get into digital illustration. I hope someday I can produce illustrations that I can show to the public! I also like to craft when I have the time. I would love to start a business re-purposing old furniture and selling it. I actually think that I will go through with it someday.
When do you feel the most confident?
A snazzy outfit. That, and a pair of heels. Also, when I learn something new and I feel that I’m good at it, I get a huge boost of confidence. I love to show the new skill off to my roommates, since they’re the only ones able to handle my short-lived burst of excitement. It’s kind of silly actually, but it makes me happy!
