Listen: Tired Pony – All Things All At Once | When The Gramophone ...

Featured — By Andrew Evans on 15/07/13

Tired PonyTired Pony are, through its very nature, is an interesting proposition. Primarily a sideproject for Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody and Peter Buck of the now defunkt R.E.M, their debut album quickly morphed into a group jam that included Editors’ Tom Smith, Zooey Deschanel and Belle and Sebastian’s Richard Richard Colburn.

When we reviewed The Place We Ran From back in 2010, we remarked:

“How much more we will get from Tired Pony remains unclear. More live shows are being discussed, but even if no more records come further down the line, the fact remains that they have given us one tremendous album, one that, for the first time in Lightbody’s career contains not a single dud. In fact, the majority of songs present on The Place We Ran From aren’t good. They are great.”

Now they are back with a new record – The Ghost of the Mountain – prepped and scheduled for release in August, and have just unveiled its first single, ‘All Things All At Once’. It isn’t a large audible departure from the sound of the first record – Lightbody’s Celtic drawl over the top of chirpy Americana – and comes with a shiny video of the group recording in Jacknife Lee’s Malibu studio.

The Ghost of the Mountain is due out 19th August.
