The Beauty Stop » » 3 Different Styles – 3 Expert Tips to DIY

October 2, 2013

The runways of various fashion weeks are incubators for trends. This year, I noticed 3 reoccuring hair trends that are incredibly easy to do at home! I always love it when things are kept simple and these styles have come and gone, but that’s what makes them classics.

BIG Bouncy Curls – Tumbles of curls from Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs and Cavalli were present in all three runways. The were all soft and fluffy in a mix of swept structure, preppy fizz and baroque retro cascades. To DIY the look, work mousse through air-dried hair. Then wrap one inch sections around a slim curling iron minding that you don’t get too close to your part. Mist curls with hairspray and use your fingers to tease out the curls or smooth back and secure wit a pin.

Slick and Sleek – I love this look when it is mixed with volume at the crown, but Elie Saab and Richard Nicoll kept their slicked back model simple. It translated well into Saab’s ladylike tones and managed to play nice with Nicoll’s androgynous looks. The secret to a lasting glossy slick – mix a shine serum with a styling cream to create your own personal cocktail and apply it from the roots back. Start tapering off around your crown and let the rest of your locks flow free.

Fringe Faces – I always think of Zooey Deschanel when I see a fringe. She is super cute, so this trend isn’t a surprise on the runways of Pucci, DKNY and Ferragamo. Ask for blunt bangs when you are going for the cut and use a light holding spritz of hairspray on damp hair before you blow-dry. Next, work a serum through dried hair and finish with another coat of light hold hairspray.
