Spring into fashion | gcsunade.com

Colonnade reporter Lexi Scott has the scoop on what spring fashion styles are trending to help you dress to impress this season

Spring has officially arrived. Well, hopefully, because you never know in Georgia. Even with all the crazy weather, the fashion gods have spoken, and the new spring trends have been released. Spring 2014 trends aren’t just full of the cliché pastels and lace but have some very unexpected yet fun pieces that you can find at stores you already shop in.

At first glance, fashion trends can be scary and hard to wrap your head around, but they don’t have to be. Since there’s something out there for everyone, you only need a few key pieces to amp up what you already have in your closet. One trend that is sure to add some color to your wardrobe is the tropical print. We’ve just said goodbye to Spring Break and the warm, sandy beach, but tropical prints will help us bring the beach to Milledgeville. Tropical prints are a cool contrast to spring florals and look great printed on a crop top paired with high-waisted shorts.

Baseball caps, mesh, track pants and bomber jackets are all in style according to designers Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger. That’s right ladies: Sporty is chic. However, this isn’t your normal Ralph Lauren Polo cap and Peach State Pride shirt pairing. Instead, try pairing a graphic sweatshirt with bright gym shorts or a mesh top with a printed mini skirt.

If you’re looking for something more subtle and classic for spring, pastel colors made their usual appearances on the runway – but with a twist. Pastels have been a spring must-have for years, but it’s time to step it up a little. Instead of a pastel colored dress, try a bomber jacket in a shade of blush pink. If you’re feeling bold, try pairing a pastel blouse with a metallic skirt or shoe.

For many of us, bad hair days seem to happen more often than we would like. Luckily, messy, “just rolled out of bed” hair is in this season. This look is especially effortless for those of you with naturally wavy or curly hair. Just look at Lorde: She has completely embraced her natural hair texture and now girls everywhere are following her lead. If you have naturally straight hair, it’s actually simple and cheap to attain this look. All it takes is a little spritz of Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray.

If you’re a perfectly polished girl, then the low ponytail or half-updo will be more your style. You may have seen Emma Roberts sporting the low ponytail on the red carpet or know the half-updo as Ariana Grande’s go-to hairstyle. These two looks are perfect for any hair texture, low-key but still chic.

Now for the icing on the cake: makeup. Many makeup artists, including Beyoncé’s, are focusing on accentuating the lips. It’s all about the bright, bold colors. According to Beyoncé’s makeup artist, Sir John, spring orange is the new shade in town. This often overlooked hue isn’t just for the runway and has been spotted on celebrities like Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars, Zooey Deschanel and Rihanna. If you aren’t quite ready for this bright shade, a coral or neon pink shade is still bold but not quite as overpowering.
