Zooey Deschanel Says Being Bullied in 7th Grade Prepared Her for Adulthood

Not everyone cruises through their teenage years and I really like it when celebrities go on the record with their experiences. Take Zooey Deschanel for example. The New Girl actress is covering the August issue of InStyle Magazine and she had no problem discusses her teen years. According to the actress 7th grade was like hitting rock bottom and she says that dealing with people who spit in her face really did end up preparing her for the future.

Not that anyone wants to have a torturous experience at school but it does help to adjust your mindset. Now as an adult Zooey knows how to laugh at herself and let things roll off of her back. She also knows first hand how to bounce back after going through a really rough patch. Little things are never going to totally break her and the same holds true for everyday people. Perception is often everything and we have choices in how to get through things.

Like Zooey you can choose to find the life lesson even in the hardest days and then take it with you through life. While no one wants or even deserves to be bullied if you find yourself in that situation there is still something that you can learn from it. It’s actually better to learn how to handle mean people when you are younger than to have to struggle with it in adulthood. The main thing is that you walk away from each situation and keep moving.

Zooey was bullied but kept pushing through and look at her life now. She’s an actress, singer, designer- the list is endless because instead of giving up she decided to take even the lousy experiences and let them motivate her towards better things. Have you experienced the kind of bullying that Zooey went through? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
