I had a girl crush on Zooey Deschanel. Men might be confused by this term "girl crush", but I can assure you there is nothing sexual involved. Imagine if your gay boyfriend were a woman. That's a girl crush.
Zooey caught everyone's attention in Almost Famous, but she won our hearts alongside Will Ferrel in Elf. Quirky, cute, and as I discovered after picking up a copy of Winter Passing in the dollar DVD section of Big Lots, a damn good actress. You may recognize her last name as she is the sister of Emily Deschanel from one of my favorite TV shows, Bones, and she is the female part of the singing duo "She and Him". Yes Man. 500 Days of Summer. I love everything she puts her talents to. And then, she got a TV show.
New Girl is on Fox. I waited weeks for its debut, shrieking and clapping my hands every time an ad came on. It seemed like such a cute idea. It seemed like the perfect role for her. They even attempted to coin a new catch term "adorkable". I managed to sit through the pilot, but they've lost me. They killed it. Zooey Deschanel has broken my heart.
It can't be all her fault. I'm sure some bad writers, idiot director, and poor casting is working against her. But the show just sucks. Her cuteness and quirkiness and adorkability can't save it. The only character that was even worth watching was Coach and they replaced him after the pilot! Why?! I am saddened and disappointed, and pray this craptastic series gets cancelled and that Zooey returns her talents to the big screen.
