For those of you who are fans of Zooey Deschanel, you should consider yourself lucky. This ingénue has done a pretty great job of rising to fame without compromising much of what makes her an intriguing celebrity. Furthermore, her unique fashions and quirky mannerisms have never seemed anything but genuine, far from the likes of so many artists out there who make "innovative" choices that are obviously borne out of a need for attention.

Yes, Dechanel has gotten the attention of mainstream America, mostly through her turn as Jess in New Girl, which airs Tuesday nights on Fox. This is a pretty big feat, no doubt. First, the coveted post-Glee spot is a big one, and Fox wouldn't just hand this to any show. Furthermore, it shows that Fox is willing to take a risk for the eccentric Deschanel, who could likely rub much of middle America the wrong way (granted, if they're turning in for Glee, there's probably not much to worry about, but still! Network execs are a cautious bunch).

However, true Deschanel fans remember her from other successes, like her breakout role in (500) Days of Summer, and her critically acclaimed CDs she has created as part of the band She and Him. Her musical abilities cannot be discounted, and curious viewers could even YouTube an early role she held in Once Upon a Mattress as Lady Larkin, a princess who sings her troubles away.

Regardless of when you caught onto the Deschanel craze, I'm sure you can be equally as thankful as myself for the simple fact that she's no longer relegated to two-dimensional roles in blasé romantic comedies such as Failure to Launch. Zooey is much more than the weird best friend, she's a star in her own right, and it's about time everyone realized it!
