She & Him 'Volume Two'

Top Track: Don't Look Back

American Indie duo She & Him (consisting of Zooey Deschanel – Ukele/Vocals/Piano & Daniel M. Ward – Guitar/Vocals/Production)'s second studio album was released in 2010, allowing for the band to tour the US and Europe. I fell in love with the band upon hearing this album for the first time, and I'm going to tell you why.

Volume Two picks up from exactly where Volume 1 left off, depicting Deschanel as a strong, smart woman not letting romantic disappointment get her down – only Deschanels back as a more accomplished and evidently more confident singer, actress and songwriter.

Seeing a star that does all of these things is pretty common – David Hasslehoff and Lindsey Lohan, for example have both recorded studio albums – however it's not supposed to go this way. What's meant to happen is we laugh at these actor-turned-musician attempts and playfully shrug off their efforts, pretending it never existed. In Zooey Deschanels case this proves difficult as it turns out not only is she the most 'adorkable' and brilliant actress out there, she's also a pretty talented musician.

The songs are beautifully written and presented and the best tracks (if I can't just say the entire album, that is) include the likes of 'Gonna Get Along Without You Now' and 'Don't Look Back'.  Ward's vocal appear on their cover of NRBQ's 'Ridin' in My Car' turning the she-said/he-said story into a Hipster Grease.
