Who's that girl? It's Jess!
My favourite programme on television at the moment has to be 'New Girl'. For those of you who haven't seen it yet, the show follows a 20-something 'adorkable' girl called Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, who discovers her boyfriend is cheating on her and so moves in with three guys she's never met before. Her offbeat and upbeat personality throws up some unusual situations for her and her new friends, while Jess learns to adjust to life as the new girl.
Not only has this show re-affirmed my love for Zooey Deschanel, but after every episode I watch, I fall more in love with Jess' style. So look no further if you want to find out how to emulate her cute and quirky style.
Specs and Curls:
The key to imitating Jess' look is long, soft waves and a half-moon fringe (if you can pull it off!). I find an easy way to achieve her beachy waves is with a Babyliss Curling Wand. The second part of her signature style is her geeky thick rimmed glasses. Clear, chunky specs have been in the shops for the last year or so, but if you are as blind as a bat like me and need to wear glasses, you can pick up the ones she actually wears in the show at Oliver Peoples.
Patterns and Prints:
Jess is not one to shy away from bold prints and patterns. She seamlessly works big polka dots or stripes into her day-to-day outfits. If you're not comfortable wearing daring prints, pick a more subtle print such as tiny polka dots on a skirt and team with a plain top and a cute and colourful cardigan.
Bright Colours:
Jess seems to have every colour under the sun in her wardrobe, it makes me so jealous! There is no such thing as neutrals for this girl, as she likes to co-ordinate and clash her combinations. These crayon colours reflect her bright and bubbly personality, which is infectious. Instead of a LBD, Jess is a lover of the LRD (the little red dress), which she rocks in various different styles throughout the series.
Flat Shoes:
Possibly the best thing about Jess' style, comfort is key. You'll rarely see her in a pair of heels. She has a multitude of ballet flats that she combines perfectly with every outfit. Some of her skirts and dresses tend to be a bit on the short side, so teaming them with flats shows off her long legs without erring on the promiscuous side!!
