Bringing some old friends on stage, Tucker played to a well-packed crowd for the opening act that evening, hitting some of my favorites from the new album, including "Revolution" (album opener), "New Orleans" (a gem from the Deluxe version), and "Almost". Tucker's voice is soothing, her finger-picked guitar playing is calming, and her band adds an ideal complement of toe-tapping beats and bending electric guitar hits to keep your wonder and attention. Most of all, her voice is beautiful and adds her to a growing list of female vocalists who are become infectious on my iPod. Comparing her almost vintage-style vocals to that of Zooey Deschanel would be my best comparison. It's soft, yet deep and brilliant, wondering what the stories are that this woman has to share.
Tucker's personality is endearing and her music is simple. When it comes to a Friday night with a whiskey in my hand, I can't think of any other sort of music I'd like to see in front of me. Ghost of Something New gives me a feeling of Tucker turning a corner in her life. Like most of us, though, we're on a journey. This album is just another step on Tucker's journey, thankfully singing her thoughts into our own journey at the same time.
Ghost of Something New is available now, so go get it!
