Ask Hannah Simone where she's from and she just laughs.
"That's such a complicated question," she says, "I'm still figuring it out myself."
The 31-year-old actress, who plays stunner Cece Meyers on the breakout comedy hit "New Girl," explains her United Nations upbringing by pointing out that her father is Indian and her mother is half German-Italian, half Greek-Cypriot.
"I was born in England," she says, "but then I lived in Calgary, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, India, Vancouver, London, Toronto and now L.A."
Further complicating things is the fact that her stepfather is half Scottish, half Irish.
"That explains the sense of humour," she says.
It was her deadpan delivery which helped her land the part of model Cece on "New Girl." Cece is best friends with lead character Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel.
"When I auditioned I just went in deadpan because that's what I find funny," she says. "That's my family; we have a very British sense of humour, very dry."
Simone was thrilled to read in the first "New Girl" script that her character wasn't just another dumb model.
"That's such an easy stereotype … I know quite a few friends who are models and they're usually really smart, sharp, world-savvy people."
