With the weather finally brightening up, it's time to fully embrace the SS12 trends. One of this season's hottest trends, and a personal fave of mine, is the skater dress (also known as the 'fit and flare' dress) which is fitted on top, nipped in at the waist and floaty at the skirt, giving the illusion of the much sought-after hour glass silhouette. Possibly the most flattering style out there, this dress shape will suit anyone because it accentuates the waist and skims over any lumps and bumps whilst maximising your pins. With celeb fans such as Kim Kardashian and Zooey Deschanel, fashionable femmes everywhere are making it clear that the skater dress is a necessary wardrobe staple. Here's some of the best pastel coloured skater style dresses (two trends in one) to suit your budget:

 SAVE:

River Island – £30 - Light Beige Glitter Skater Dress

This River Island dress is simple yet chic. Pair with statement sandals for a casual day outfit or dress to impress by pairing it with some colour pop heels and clutch bag. Available in blue and pink as well, this is a truly versatile dress which you'll be able to wear again and again.

SPEND:

Jones and Jones – £65 - Poppy Dress Pink

Jones and Jones is quickly becoming a cult favourite. This pastel-pink dress is stunning for the summer months – both ultra-feminine and edgy with the flirty full skater skirt, this dress is unlike other designs and well worth spending that extra bit for. Pair with some killer heels in nude or pastel shades for a chic glam look or if ultra-girly isn't for you, similar Jones and Jones skater dresses are available in black, navy and red.

SPLURGE:

Reiss – £225 - The 'Kana' Dress

This Reiss number screams elegance. Falling just a couple of inches above the knee this skater dress is very sophisticated and perfect for special occasions. Combine with an understated gold chain waist belt and similar nude-shade accessories for a classic look.

If pastel shades aren't for you, why not try something a little edgier? Topshop currently stocks skater dresses in all sort of colours and styles featuring animal prints and mesh inserts. Or, go for a simple skater dress in one colour and pair with ankle socks and brogues for a cool, laid-back day time look. The possibilities are endless…
