Wearing lots of colour can be hard right? I mean, I don't really want to spend summer in a wardrobe with a colour palette ranging mostly from black to grey however, my fear of looking like a children's TV presenter means I often err on the side of caution when it comes to wearing brighter colours.
I know I'm not alone in this, lots of women struggle to wear colour without feeling like they look garish or over done. Pastels, brights, florals or prints, it's a tricky thing to get right. So, I thought I'd take some inspiration from the queen of colour herself, Miss Zooey Deschanel.

1. Green 60's vintage dress £29.99 2. Black bow hair clip £4.99 3. Light blue ballet flats £12.99 4. Floral cardigan £12.99 5. Hot Pink sun dress £15.99 6. Yellow sun dress £34.99
Style mantra * be daring with colour, don't be afraid to pair blue with green or gold with red, but always choose something with great shape
Anyone who has watched 'New Girl' knows that Zooey's character Jess is the ultimate girly girl. Whilst on the show her off-beat and slightly eccentric personality has divided opinion, I'm sure we can all agree the girl's got some serious style. Zooey's knack for pairing bold colours with statement prints, and her ability to strike a balance between quirky and classic keeps me tuning in to admire her outfits (I also wish I had her hair).
Zooey's look works for two reasons. Firstly, shape. Deschanel knows the importance of a good silhouette to flatter her figure. And secondly, she keeps it simple, letting her clothes do the talking and keeping the rest low key. The result is something bold, fun, and yet seemingly effortless. So, if you've been gushing over Zooey's style like me, here are three ways you can get the look from head to toe in time for spring…

Look one: 1. Brown belt £4.99 2. Layered skirt £7.99 3. Cashmere top £6.99 5. Red shoes £14.99
Look two: 6. Floral skirt £34.99 3. Cashmere top 5. Red shoes 1. Brown belt
Look three: 4. Lace shift dress £50 ***This dress is perfect for all the hours I plan to spend frolicking in the park (English summer withstanding) 5. Red shoes
