Track of the Week
Beach House – Myth
Swooning duo Beach House are one of the best to soundtrack ones daydreams to. You may find yourself dancing your fingers along railings, looking up into the sky pretending you're a sun-drenched Lux in the Virgin Suicides. Needless to say listening to Beach House is something I should have learned to do in private. This latest track Myth gives us more dreamy, gently unfolding psychedelia and faded neon loveliness. Their third album will be coming out later this year so I apologise if you bump into me as I skip down the street looking incurably love-struck.
Artist of the Week
Alex Winston
Alex Winston makes wonderfully cool pop and fits into that same clap-along club as Oh Land and Lykke Li. Her fantastic debut album King Con came out this week and has a dark, melancholy centre on top of the sugary sweetness. There are handfuls of brilliant tracks but the stand-out is the instantly recognisable Sister Wife. Of course, you'll realise you have been unwittingly listening to for months because its on a constantly-played car advert. Check yourself if you're dancing around to it feeling very pleased that you have some kind of this-is-going-to-be-a-hit radar; it already is.
Band of the Week
Memoryhouse
This week as a plethora of new releases. Nite Jewel, Xiu Xiu and The Civil Wars are all albums that are still woefully underplayed in my iTunes because I was enchanted by Memoryhouse and their new album The Slideshow Effect. If the gloriously faded cover-art isn't enough to break your heart then lead single The Kids Were Wrong most definitely will. If you've never heard them before imagine if Zooey Deschanel covered Camera Obscura – you should really do that by the way Zooey – all breezy blue skies, heavy fringes and heartache.
