Her debut movie was Mumford, followed by Almost Famous in which she plays the role of protagonist's older sister Anita. She is also known for her supporting roles in Elf, Failure to Launch as well as leading roles in the movies, 500 Days of Summer and Yes Man. Before making her debut movie, she had appeared in television series Victoria's Closest as a guest. The New Guy was first of her films in which Deschanel sang onscreen. She has sung in several movies, including Elf, Yes Man, and 500 Days.
