You guys, I forgot to do a blog post yesterday. I'm SO SORRY! There's really no excuse. I knew I would fail at BEDA eventually. I was actually surprised that I lasted so long. But not to worry! I will not stop BEDA. I'll post two blogs today to catch up.
I've always been a fan good TV, but there's something about a good TV Show Theme Song that really sets the mood for a great show. This was brought to my attention by the recent trend in having just a title screen, as is the trend with shows like Lost and Fringe (and Alcatraz, and pretty much every JJ Abrams show), and while I love these shows, I miss the theme songs. So, here's my top ten favourite TV Show Credits.
1. Veronica Mars
I'm a little biased on this one, because I've been watching this show pretty much constantly for the last week. The song really captures the feel of the show. I loved the meta joke when Veronica says 'we used to be friends, a long time ago' and they launch into the credits. Brilliant.
2. New Girl
This is really the show that made me write this post. The theme song is sung by star Zooey Deschanel, and it's so sweet and funny, just like this show.
3. Friends
Can't have a credits list without Friends. It's classic. I love how they embrace the claps in the song, and everyone looks like they're having so much fun.
4. How I Met Your Mother
It doesn't have any words, but somehow it invokes a sense of camaraderie with this group of friends. It makes you want to have fun with them. And it's fun to sing along with.
5. Gilmore Girls
Okay, don't judge me for this, but I love this show, and the opening. I sing it to my mom when we watch it together. And it's sung by a mother and daughter, it's so appropriate.
6. The Big Bang Theory
Penned by local boys The Barenaked Ladies, this theme is so smart and clever, just like this show. It actually brings to mind They Might Be Giants, which is appropriate.
7. Firefly
I've never actually watched this show yet. Though it's on my list. (Seriously, do I have any friends with the season on dvd and the willingness to let me borrow it? I need more Nathan Fillion in my life). But you can't deny the brilliance of these credits. They're epic.
8. Star Trek: The Next Generation
I can't not put this in here. I just can't.
9. Chuck
Cut from the superb song Short Skirt/Long Jacket by the band Cake, these credits are perfect. Fun and silly and definitely follow the theme of the show.
10. Community
*sings* We could be roped up, tied up, dead in a year!!
This opening is perfect. It reminds me of college.
