Empire.com posted earlier this week that the long in development spoof film, the Chronicles of Barnia: Animals Unite Against Evil has been greenlit for shooting in summer this year.

According to Empire's summary of the film:

When a young piglet named Trudy (Zooey Deschanel) learns that she is destined to become bacon on her owner's platter, she finds refuge in a magical barn filled with wonderful animals. When she returns to the real world, everyone ridicules her for telling crazy stories. Undeterred, Trudy finds herself facing a wicked darkness that lurks in the barn that threatens to consume all the land. Will the magical animals retaliate? Will Trudy become breakfast? Directed by the Farrelly brothers (Dumb and Dumber, The Three Stooges), the Chronicles of Barnia: Animals Unite Against Evil is an inspirational tale that proves that even the smallest piglet can make all the difference.

Barnia will feature both animatronic animals and puppets. It is loosely based on a short story by Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga, Snow White and the Huntsman), who will be producing the film. Stewart reportedly wrote the story while watching the extended edition of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on ABC Family in December 2010. She described the story last week as being "like, you know, cool. And the animals know how to fight the, you know, the evil." The film is slated for a January 2014 release date.

UPDATE: Boxofficemojo.com has updated their schedule to include Barnia for a slot in the December 6th, 2013 weekend and with a budget of $75 million. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate.

Thanks to 'BuffytheVampireSlayer' for the heads up!
