Even though shes the coveted New Girl in town, Zooey Deschanel doesnt have much time for the fellas.
Or rather, any time at all.
The quirky actress, 32, filed for divorce from her husband of two years, musician Ben Gibbard, at the beginning of the year, and has been focusing on work ever since.
Honestly, Im just going through a divorce, so I dont really think thats something I want to get into now, she told the May issue of Marie Claire. I dont have time to date. I literally — dont-have-time.
Deschanel, who has struck it big with critical praise for her Fox series, about a twentysomething who moves in with three single guys, also adds that children and the domestic life never really interested her anyway.
Thats never been my focus … My sister [Emily] was always very motherly, baby-sitting and stuff, she told the magazine. I like kids, and I like being around kids — but it was never an ambition, something, like I need … I like working.
Thats what I like doing. I like to work.
And with her career on the rise, Deschanels hard work has clearly paid off.
The self-proclaimed weird gal tells Marie Claire that she has always known there was nothing else I wanted to do … I wanted to sing, perform, act.
And shes laughing all the way to the bank in the face of the kids who used to bully her when she was younger.
"I still have in me the same awareness when I was 12 and chubby and a girl was spitting in my face. I'm the same person, she said. Certainly you change, and you change perspective, you have other experiences.
But isn't it funny — I can still remember when I was treated differently from the way I'm treated now."
