Max Greenfield thinks people might be a little disappointed when they meet him.
"They're like, 'Oh, all right, where's the other guy? I feel like they like Schmidt more than they like me," Greenfield said and then laughed during a recent phone interview.
The New York native is referring to the cardigan-loving breakout character he plays on "New Girl." Prior to landing the hit comedy (Tuesday at 9 p.m. on WFXT, Ch. 25), Greenfield had guest stints on "Ugly Betty," "Veronica Mars" and "Greek." He also starred in the short-lived 2006 comedy "Modern Men." The year before "New Girl," he had auditioned for a bunch of shows that he came close to getting and then didn't.
"This business is very funny, and I think for the most part people continue to do it or stick in it even when it's not going well because there is the remote possibility that all of the sudden it just completely flips itself over and, like that, you're on the show with Zooey Deschanel … and you're like, 'Oh my God. I can't believe this just happened,' " he said. "It's made everything that came before this — some of the disappointing situations, shows I didn't get, roles that just didn't go my way — it's all been totally worth it for this one."
