NEW Spider-man Trailer: Andrew Garfield is a great big heart on legs. Emma Stone is one of the most charming and idiosyncratic actresses of her generation, and her comedy instincts are peerless. Sally Field and Martin Sheen are the Uncle and Aunt I wish I had, and Dennis Leary and Rhys Ifans have got the rough energy and wild inside that could set fire to their scenes.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt Developing Another Little Shop Of Horrors Remake
Little Shop of Horrors was a Corman quickie, first of all, featuring an early performance by Jack Nicholson that beggars belief, in a role that renders that shatters that belief into stardust. Then, in the 80s, the film formed the basis of a stage musical by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which then became a film again, an adaptation of the show directed by Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and a brilliant man-eating plant puppet by sometime Muppet maker Lyle Conway.
And now, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is producing another go-around with the intent of starring as Seymour, the florist who feeds people to his alien flower, Audrey II. According to Heat Vision, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been tapped to write the script. He has experience in musicals, having re-written Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and being on the board at Glee. And so does producer Marc Platt, one of the forces behind Wicked.
So while there's no word on this being another version of the musical, it doesn't seem impossible, or even too unlikely. Gordon-Levitt certainly has facility in song and dance – see 500 Days of Summer for some very rousing evidence. And keep looking at 500 Days for his perfect Little Shop co-star; Zooey Deschanel would make an ideal Audrey. The human Audrey I, that is, not Audrey II. She doesn't have the big flappy fronds necessary for that part. I won't be at all surprised if a musical turns out to have been the plan all along. And if they are re-adapting the stage show, perhaps they'll have the nerve to keep its ending, because the Oz film certainly didn't. Or perhaps there won't be any songs at all and Gordon-Levitt will just be playing a murderous nerd on the hunt for blood. That would sell plenty of tickets too. I'm sure.
