'Worst' art restoration spawns new online meme - Socially Savvy!

‘Worst’ art restoration spawns new online meme

Every weekday, PR Daily associate editor Alan Pearcy highlights the day’s most compelling stories and amusing marginalia on the Web in this, #TheDailySpin.

When life hands you lemons … add vodka. And drink. That’s my advice for the man responsible for what Time magazine called the “Worst. Restoration. Ever.” The dishonor belongs to a Spanish senior citizen, who botched her attempt at mending a timeworn fresco titled “Ecce Homo” that depicts Jesus wearing a crown of thorns in the painting. Of course, the Internet has turned the failed restoration into the latest online meme, “Potato Jesus.” Judging from the inspired work, it might be the start of a new movement in art history.

As for the classics, Advertising Age stumbled upon a 1950s era 7Up campaign featuring an 11-month-old toddler tossing back a bottle of the fizzing soft drink. Probably beats the heck out of formula.

It might be frowned upon to give young children soda these days, but kids are rolling around in some pretty sweet rides. Check out the posh new baby carriage from Viktor & Rolf for Bugaboo; its “daddy-friendly” stroller retails at $ 1,775.

Maybe if you or your company taps into a few of these ways to turn a profit from Pinterest, you’ll be able to get that stroller someday.

Of course, accounting comes into play when handling money. Fortunately, our generation had Sesame Street’s Count von Count to teach us about numbers. Unfortunately, the world lost Jerry Nelson last past week, the notable puppeteer behind the well-known character. It’s safe to say we lost a good one (ah-ah-ah; two—ah-ah-ah, three—ah-ah-ah…). Nelson was 78 years old.

Sadly, the world universe also lost its first man on the moon. Neil Armstrong, 82, died Saturday of complications following heart surgery. On Twitter, celebs, astronauts, and everyone in between mourned the loss of a man whose impact was astronomical.

Meanwhile, Bob Barker has spent a lifetime making an impact for a group whose members can’t speak for themselves—our animals. No longer asking you to merely spay and neuter your pets, the former “Price is Right” host has enlisted some A-list friends to help. Barker has joined forces with Mercy for Animals, who alongside actors Ryan Gosling, Kristen Bell, and Zooey Deschanel, launched WalmartCruelty.com, a website that aims to sway the retailer to drop its ruthless pork suppliers.

Meat suppliers for Burger King weren’t the issue for Ashanti McShan. Instead, the ex-Burger King employee claims to be the victim of religious discrimination at one of the chain’s locations outside Dallas. According to her lawsuit, McShan, a Pentecostal Christian, claims she was fired for wearing a long black skirt instead of the black pants the fast feeder requires of its employees.

People in New York City on Sunday were unconcerned with how they choose to dress the lower halves of their bodies. But their upper halves were a different story. As part of “National Go-Topless Day,” roughly two-dozen women wearing bras or shirts staged a protest to draw attention to inequality in topless rights between men and women.

CTV female weather reporter Astrid Braunschmidt uncomfortably stood her ground against a male colleague’s unintentional advance when anchor Andrew Johnson amusingly failed to grasp the meaning of “canoodling.” Watch below:
