Blake Lively channelling Marilyn Monroe with luscious blonde waves, Lana Del Rey going retro-tastic with her signature beehive and Solange Knowles working a mega afro – 2012 has provided hairspiration a-plenty. In the past twelve months, we’ve been inspired by long-time hair heroes from Gwyneth Paltrow to Jennifer Aniston and welcomed newbies including Azealia Banks and Felicity Jones into our beauty fold.
The year has seen its fair share of hair transformations too. Natalie Portman went from brunette to blonde, Karlie Kloss got the chop and Kate Middleton gave the ‘invisible fringe’ a try, sending the Internet into a right royal spin. Taylor Swift said bye-bye to those adorable Goldilocks curls and went the poker straight route, adding a blunt fringe in the process. Speaking of fringes, we fell in love with Zooey Deschanel’s barnet and watched in amazement as Jessica Biel’s face furniture became the perfect way to keep her red carpet looks fresh.
As for our favourite chameleons, Katy Perry and Rihanna kept us on our toes by giving several hair hues a go. But Anne Hathaway’s pixie cut has to be THE most shocking hair update of 2012 after the actress ditched her gorgeously glossy tresses for her role in Les Miserables.
On the makeup front, Adele became our go-to girl for nailing flicked black eyeliner and Mila Kunis showed us how to do the perfect smokey eye. Gwen Stefani maintained her crown as red lipstick queen, although Rita Ora gave her a run for her beauty icon money. Unsurprisingly, Kate Moss looked eternally wonderful without a scrap of makeup on those killer cheekbones while Miranda Kerr gave us serious glowing-skin envy. Oh, and let’s not forget Cara Delevingne who instigated the biggest browmance we’ve ever seen.
