Want your barnet to rival Gywneth's golden mane or your bangs to be as bouncy and beautiful as Zooey Deschanel's? Of course you do. And as luck would have it, you can.  We've enlisted the help of hair stylist to the stars David Babaii to give us some tips on how to achieve those A-list locks. And with a client list including the likes of Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson and Kate Hudson, we're pretty sure he's the man to ask.

David says …

"For Michelle Williams it's all about shine. To start, blow dry with a vent brush and gradually work the hair into the desired shape – this will also help to create volume . When dry, add a small amount of wax and use a wide tooth comb to create style definition."

"To create a style similar look to Evan Rachel Wood, start by shampooing, then run a strong hold mouse through the hair to add volume and body. Blow dry with a small round brush at the crown to create height moving hair to one side. To finish, smooth the sides and nape area with a wax or serum, and for a lasting hold spritz with good quality hairspray."

"To achieve Alexa's and Cheryl's tousled looks, run an extra strong hold mouse through hair from roots to ends – this gives just the right amount of volume and hold. Next, rough dry your tresses by using your hands, moving the hair in various directions. When hair is damp start scrunching to achieve texture. Once dry, use a shine enhancing serum and scrunch to arrange hair into desired style."

Top tip: "As an option, you can take random sections of hair and wrap around a curling iron to add additional style definition. For extra lift at the scalp area, spray serum onto your finger tips and apply to the root area to add fullness and texture – fix with a spritz of hairspray."

1. Bumble & Bumble Curl Concious Holding Foam, £21.50, John Lewis 2. Tigi Bed Head Glaze Smoothing Hair Serum, £10.50, ASOS 3. Thairapy Curling Iron, £130.00, Harrods 4. Samy Fat Hairspray, £6.59, Superdrug

"For a Zooey-inspired 'do, rough dry with a diffuser to create natural texture in the hair. When hair is almost dry, spritz with serum to help build soft waves and volume. For the fringe area, use a large round brush and round the ends of the hair under. For these beachy waves, use a 11/12 inch curling iron and wrap sections around the inside of the barrel, holding for 10 seconds – then release and allows curls to fall naturally. To finish, part in the middle and finish with hair spray."

"For Gwyneth Paltrow-style glossy locks, start by blow drying hair, parting it down the middle, and divide it into four sections (sides, crown and nape). Next it's time to straighten – start at the nape of the neck and work upwards towards the crown and sides. To finish and create movement, run shine enhancing serum through your hair and scrunch to create this straight, edgy look."
