Any excuse to reference "The Jerk" is a good one.
The built-in heads-up display is one of the crucial components that prevents us from having our sci-fi future now. After all, every good postmodern nightmare has HUDs. The Terminator's killing power comes from a heads-up display; RoboCop and his great justice also comes via a HUD. Now, Google's secretive Google X division is putting together a HUD for the rest of us. Project Glass is a heads-up display built into a pair of sunglasses meant to allow users to Google while they walk. Now that? That's pretty cool, and pretty useful. However, I don't think Google should limit themselves to eyeglasses (though that's a good place to start). This kind of display needs to be a part of a car windshield. Imagine a windshield that displays all the information currently visible in your dashboard, but arranged in such a way that you don't have to take your eyes off the road to see your speed, change the radio station, or check your gas tank level. Since Google X, the skunkworks behind Project Glass, is also behind the self-driving car, maybe there will be some integration of services closer to launch date.
Google hopes to launch Project Glass by the end of the year at a price point between $250 and $600.
