Once upon a time in the sea...: (500) Days of Summer

Hello, folks!

Another different post today. Beyond music and books, I love movies too, and I watched a very interesting and adorable one this week. Probably the best I've watched this year so far. "(500) Days of Summer" is a comedy drama movie released in 2009, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel as Tom Hansen and Summer Finn. She's the girl who doesn't believe in true love, and he's the guy who falls in love with her and tries to show her that her concept is wrong.

In my opinion, the main point of the movie is: do things happen in life coincidentally or are they all guided by fate, especially in love occasions? There is also the "expectations vs. reality" duel, which happens very often on nowadays' relationships. Tom creates lots of expectations on his relationship with Summer, but the reality rarely attends them. In the end of the movie, after all of the good and bad events that happened in their lives, both of them learn important lessons to life ─ each one on his/her own way.

Another curious point about the movie is the way the story is told. It begins with Tom trying to understand why his relationship with Summer didn't work, so he starts remembering everything since the day they met to find out what was wrong. 500 days being told us in a non-chronological way. Simple, but stunning and surrounding.

To make things better, we also have a fantastic soundtrack, which includes The Smiths, Regina Spektor and She & Him (Deschanel's music project). It's a perfect package for a perfect movie that shows you a very interesting side of life and makes you think about many things, especially if you have been through the "expectations vs. reality" thing somehow.

After watching it, I concluded that fate is great and yes, some things are coincidences and others are guided by it. Sometimes things might not happen in the way you want, but be sure that they are going to be better than you imagined. So just let things happen; nobody can change what is written in the stars. Tom Hansen is the biggest proof of it.

Here you have the trailer for the movie. I've already posted a video from it, which you can check here.

Another chance for you to check how great the soundtrack is. :) I hope you will enjoy it!
